The JEWISH PASSOVER and
The LAST SUPPER

When our Lord instituted his Memorial Supper—the Last Supper—it was a new symbol, built upon and related to the old Passover type of the nation of Israel. It was not a part of Israel's Passover, but many of the features of the Jewish ceremony help to illustrate the death of Jesus and what that death will mean for his true followers and, even further, deliverance for the whole world. The Last Supper with Jesus and his twelve Apostles was a commemoration of Christ's death — the antitypical Passover Lamb. As we read, Jesus "took bread, and when he had given thanks he brake it, and said, Take, eat; this is my body, which is broken for you [this represents me, the antitypical Passover Lamb; it represents my flesh]. This do in remembrance of me." (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
